This set covers the basics with plenty of glass lids. The pots and pans are limited in use. Although they claim to be heavy gauge, they are strictly light gauge. That is why they lose a star. They are for no higher than medium heat. You can fry vegetables, and brown meat with medium heat. Not so well with non-stick as with cast iron or stainless, but you can brown. Medium heat will take you to a gentile boil. So you can get the job done with this set. But you buy this set because you want non-stick above all other considerations. But just because it is lightweight does not mean that these are not durable, given a bit of care. These are good quality for the low price.
That is fine, because you cannot use high heat with non-stick anyway. If you do, two things will happen. One, you will shorten the life of the surface by two thirds easily. Two, you will get nasty hot spots that cook unevenly. Non-stick only means your burnt food will not stick. There is a third effect, but only for dry pans: the overheated surface will emit toxic fumes and the aluminum will melt and burn. There is a silly warning included that says not to pick up molten aluminum.
You can use only medium heat in the oven as well. 350 is tops. That will do a medium or slow roast just fine. But the phenolic handles cannot take more. The pots are ideal for non-fat braising of meats, fish and vegetables. If you do not know how to braise, you are missing out on a great technique. All done with low heat, stovetop or in the oven. I would buy a roll of parchment to line under the glass lid. It makes for a tighter fit and helps circulate moisture while keeping the glass clean.
Exterior clean-up is good too, because it also is non-stick. Just put it in the dishwasher, which I never do with other pans. If these parameters are comfortable for you, then this set will last you many years and will not disappoint. Except for the cheapo utensils included. Use wood or silicone only. Metal will scratch and degrade the surface easily. But the ones included are the other reason it lost one star. I threw them away.
